Of the ten things that are always in my makeup drawer, Korres makes three of them. The mineral foundation, concealer and lip tint (pictured above) that also works and cheek stain. Everything is top quality. I recently tried out a concealer from Stila and it was fine, but only had about a third of the amount for the same price as the Korres concealer. I will be going back to my first love when the Stila runs out.
After writing them and asking about animal ingredients and testing, they sent this prompt reply:

Korres products are not tested on animals; nor does the company request animal testing on ingredients/combination of ingredients or formulae. All tests – including dermatological and clinical tests – are performed in vitro by the use of synthetic keratinocytes [in the lab] or in vivo [human volunteers under the surveillance of a dermatologist and/or special practitioners as required ie an opthalmologist].
Animal testing facts are part of the Korres Formula Facts table, featured on the side of each product; this table makes extended reference to the formula itself and its natural content while also answering frequently asked questions such as the ones about animal testing or vegetarian/vegan-friendly use.
Korres does not use animal by-products but in some cases use animal-product like milk, honey, royal jelly and beeswax. We use in our range real thyme honey, real yoghurt and milk proteins that are animal-produced raw materials, taken without causing any harm to the animals. Moreover, all our raw materials are BSA certified.

The quality of Acure products is as wonderful as the packages look.
This Cell Stimulating Facial Mast has made it’s way into my weekly routine, it is so cliche and so fun to walk around the house with a green mask on my face. If I start to break out, a round of this and the Malin + Goetz Glycolic Acid Pads take care of it.
They also make shampoos, conditioners, lotions, cleansers, toners, and lip balm—all organic, fair trade and cruelty free.

Grey squares, black and gold. And Marley’s paw!

Grey squares, black and gold. And Marley’s paw!

Tarte cosmetics has a bunch of beautiful, well-made products. I have a few of the lip stains and the clay eyeliner, which I love dearly.
The company works with a lot of charities which you can read about at tart gives back. It’s also cruelty free, hooray! The packaging is really lovely, and their website is well-made too.

BAGGU sticks to one thing: simple bags in amazing colours. They started with reusable, rip-stop nylon shopping bags and have since added leather bags, pouches, duck bags, compact-able back packs, and laptop sleeves.
I ordered my first BAGGU bags around 2008 when it was still just a mom and daughter making them on their own and I still have it and use it. They are incredibly strong, long lastings and fun. My BAGGU’s have gone through the wash, helped me move, make awesome gifts, one lives in my purse and they always come to the grocery store with me.
There is a great interview with the creator and owner, on Terrific Magazine, and here are some extra good quotes to give you a better idea of the morals and standards of the company.

“In the beginning we felt very strongly about making a super functional bag–we didn’t look at cotton or hemp, or traditionally green materials because there is no functionality there. They wear out too easily. If you sacrifice functionality, people don’t use the product. Ripstop nylon is extremely durable and an infinitely recyclable material. It was our best option.”

And another about manufacturing:

“Making our products affordable is very important to us, and that’s a fine line to walk–between making something “green”, ethically produced and fairly priced. The way we produce is our happy compromise. When the company started, Emily and her mother wanted to keep production in America–but that would result in tote bags retailing for $20 [rather than $8]. Now our bags are made overseas, but we went to the trouble of working with a broker who finds factories that are audited–making sure that they are using environmentally responsible techniques and employing fair labor practices. Manufacturing in China is the current reality, and we want to set a good example of how to do it.”
